House wines -- wines that we like to keep on hand because they're that magic combination of reasonably priced and drinkable!
Whites:
Sauvignon Blanc:
The Rodney Strong "Charlotte's Home" Sauv Blanc is consistently good across vintages, this is our go-to white wine for cooking, both for the recipes and for us.
Pinot Grigio:
I like the Italian ones. Hubby doesn't. For a splurge that we can both agree on, we look for Pinot Gris from Oregon such as Big Fire.
Chardonnay:
I prefer unoaked; Hubby likes to feel as though he's chewing on a tree when he drinks them, so we don't really have a house Chardonnay.
Viognier:
The Aussies do them good and cheap. My first exposure to Viognier was Yalumba, and it's still a favorite if I can find it.
Reds:
Pinot Noir:
For less expensive options, we go for the Central Coast of California like Meridian. For a splurge, there's nothing like Foris from Oregon.
Merlot:
Blackstock is our go-to red for cooking and drinking while we cook. It's just consistently good year after year.
Shiraz:
Again, the Aussies have it for reasonable here. We like the Woop Woop.
Cabernet Sauvignon:
We used to be more consistent with Cabs than we are now. At this point, it's adventure and price as to what we get.
Zinfandel:
For consistently good and reasonable, it's Ravenswood.
